Playing Pop for Rhyming is fun for the whole family, but it’s also educational! Rhyming develops phonological awareness, a foundational reading skill, so the more kids play, the better!
How to Play Pop for Rhyming
Beginners:
1) Players take turns spinning the spinner to determine how many pieces to pull from the container. 2) Players pull the number of pieces specified on the spinner and say the name of the picture on each piece aloud. 3) If the player can think of a word that rhymes with the name of the picture on the card, they keep the card. If not, the card goes in the discard pile. 4) The first player to collect 10 cards wins, but watch out for POP! cards. Pull one of those cards and lose all of your pieces.
Advanced:
1) Players take turns spinning the spinner to determine how many pieces to pull from the container. 2) Players pull the number of pieces specified on the spinner and say the name of the picture on each piece aloud. 3) If the player can think of a word that rhymes with the name of the picture on the card, they keep the card. If not, the card goes in the discard pile. 4) Watch out for the POP! cards. Pull one of those cards and lose all of your pieces. 5) Continue play until the container is completely empty. Players count their pieces. The player with the most pieces wins the game.
