SuperMind Review

You should see the shape our Supermind is in, after five years of use. The box is tattered, the cards are bent, and a few of the shapes have been replaced with cardstock cutouts. But to my mind, this is a sign of a well-loved activity!

Supermind develops spatial and planning skills, particularly if the kids put the blocks down incorrectly and must rethink how to make the picture turn out correctly. Like a ThinkFun game, the cards cover several different levels of play, so even older children will find it an engaging activity.

Anyway, I still have this game and plan to keep it a few more years. My youngest still plays with this, it can keep him happily occupied for 30 minutes while I am busy with the other children.

If your child enjoys this game, you might want to look at Tangrams as well. It is truly amazing how many different pictures you can create with 7 - or is it 9 - triangles.

Star Wars Chess Set / Chess Game Board with Star Wars Figurines Chess Pieces (Game Board Size 17" x 17") Review

My kids love the pieces. They had fun determining which pieces would correspond to which standard chess piece. The pieces seem to be of reasonable quality. We have not had a problem yet. My only criticism is the board is of poor quality. It's a cheap cardboard, and the orientation on my board is incorrect. If you open the board as intended, with Star Wars logo in front of each player, and with crease running horizontally, then the black square is in the lower right hand corner. With chess you need the white square in the bottom right corner (the picture that accompanies this product shows an improper setup (although the board in the picture would actually be fine if they moved the pieces 90 degrees, but that is not how my board is constructed)). You can of course rotate the board, with crease running vertically and logos on the side, it's just a bit awkward. I'm still glad I got the pieces. We will probably end up using them on a different board though.

Tell Tale Review

Seeing as my little girl knows how to read but insists on disregarding what's on the page to make up her own story, this was the perfect game (more like an activity I think...) for us to play together. There are different ways to go about it as outlined in the little booklet included in the tin, but the concept is fairly the same. You have to make up a story inspired by the pictures on each card you pull. I can't believe some of things she comes up with, this game really unleashes her creativity! For the 12 bucks I paid, I feel like I got a lot of value and it seems like this is a game that she will want to play for a while, which is more than what I can say for some of the other toys she gets!
