Oz Fluxx Review

I had never played Fluxx before, and probably never would have were it not for this Oz version. That definitely sold me on it. It truly is the game of "ever changing rules", which can take a little time getting used to. The basic premise is easy to understand, its just drawing cards and playing cards. However, Its not easy to explain the depth the game can reach without visuals or actually participating. On our first round, my friends became sort of frustrated with learning the rules and I was worried they would lose interest. Soon though, everyone got the hang of it and had a ton of fun. The OZ theme is awesome, colorful, and well thought out. I would have no problem purchasing Other Fluxx games if they had similar themes (though not many of the ones currently availible interest me much). An expansion for this would also be wonderful! An interesting feature that I should mention is that anyone can join the game at any time, making this great for family gatherings and holidays. Even if the game has been going for 20 minutes, new players can jump right in. I think small children, say under 8, might have a little troubling playing. There is also a lot of text written on some of the cards and can sometimes take repeated readings to understand. If you've never played fluxx, but like card games and OZ, you can't lose. I've heard from other gamer friends, that OZ and Zombie Fluxx are the favorites. I can see why!

Tournament Style Chess Set with Green Tournament Roll-up Chessboard with 2.25" Square Review

- I received my chess sets today and was very excited (Hey, I'm a nerd. What do you expect?). I was first impressed by the quality of the vinyl board. It's a little thicker and sturdier than I expected and lays out nicely (the corner curls go away after about 5 minutes).
- The pieces come in ziploc bags, two of which burst open during shipping but all pieces were accounted for and hey, that's what the little black bag is for.
- Speaking of the little black bag, it looked like cloth on the website but it turns out to be tightly woven vinyl threads and has a sturdy zipper, an unexpected plus. It should last for a very long time and the front design is nice; it says, "I know my chess but I'm still a fun guy!" At least it would if bags could talk.
- The pieces, however, were a little disappointing. I remember other triple weighted sets feeling heavier than these. In fact, I think they feel more like double weighted but I've been working out so who knows. You may have to judge for yourself.

All-in-all, I would say this is a very good deal for a durable, weighted, tournament qualifying set. I would have given this set 4.5 stars but that is not an option.

Multiplication Bingo Game Review

My third grade son loves playing board games. When he began learning multiplication in school he was having difficulty and this was an inexpensive way to have fun while practicing the subtraction facts. It has been a huge help and he has fun while he is learning - rather than sitting at the table with pencil and paper all of the time.

One thing I particularly like abouot this game is that if your child is having trouble with certain groups of facts (such as multiplying by 7's), you can be sure to call those cards each time to increase the repetition in which they must calculate those problems. One thing I don't like is that for some kids, or kids just beginning learning their multiplication, it is hard to calculate the problems in their head without writing it down and working it through on paper - this can be easily solved though by giving them a scratch pad and pencil while they play.

When running Selesnya tokens you are going to have a lot of cards that populate. And many do it for less than 4 mana, but this card is most certainly playable. If you have no spells it is nice to be able to cast that up. Although I will admit 6 mana for a 3/3 is way overpriced. That effect should only be used if you have not tokens.
