Dicecapades Board Game Review

We play alot of boardgames. We love games that make you think, be quick, laugh and use the game's resources well. This game Has so much potential with the nuber of dice included, but we found that it just doesn't use the dice well often enough.

The game board is divided into three parts - Thinking, Action, and Trivia. Thinking and Action make sense, usually, and make better use of the dice, but the trivia section just seems to be a bust. Many of the questions are so oblique that several people we have tried this game with are just stunned. There are some fun trivia questions that sort of make use of the dice, but with the 30 second timer, it's rare to get the answers. For example, roll an 12 sided dice and name that many Beatles songs in 30 seconds. You'd be surprised how that quick of a timer pressurizes that question.

The other sections also miss the opportunity to use all the dice well, and sometimes the winner of a card is determined solely on luck (roll one of each die and add them up - highest wins and moves).

Overall, the game has alot of potential - we're thinking about writing some alternate cards and ditching the trivia section altogether - especially since after playing the game twice with 4 people, we've already looped through ALL of the cards.

We also found the length of the game to be a little tiresome. This could also be helped with more card variety. If an expansion comes out with about 60-100 cards of each color, we might buy it, unless we follow through on our plan to write our own cards. Given the opportunity, I would not buy this game again.

If you are looking for a great game for family get togethers, beach parties or just in a playroom, Twister Hoopla will entertain all ages. Five differnt games (see above product description) can be played using this set, and these games would be just as fun for young children as teens or adults. My step-granddaughters (ages 5 & 6) love hello kitty (as do I) & were excited to play this game. It's very cute & a quick game. Similar to Candyland with the pick a card & match the color to the path on the board. The first one to the picnic wins. I personally prefer this game to candyland since it's adorable. Highly recommend for girls ages 4 - 6... especially if they are hello kitty fans.

Too Many Monkeys Review

I know this game is intended for young children, so many will frown upon this review, BUT there are plenty of games out there that are just as fun for young children as is for adults. The only two children that are halfway interested in playing this game are my 4 and 6 yr olds. Everyone else (8 and up) runs when this one comes off the shelf. It's ALL luck... absolutely no strategy at all. No educational value either other than ordering numbers from 1-6. "Rat a Tat Cat" is an example of a card game (also by Gamewright)that my whole family enjoys playing. It combines luck with strategy, memory, and the educational value of learning how to add 4 numbers together (my 4 yr old has learned how to do this). I highly recommend "Rat a Tat Cat"

If you are looking for an easy, no thinking game, for very young children (6 and under), then "Too Many Monkeys" may be a game you'd be interested in.

*update... Also you should check out "Frog Juice" by Gamewright. This is another game that all my kids (ages 4-21) enjoy playing. We bought two decks and play both decks with 8 people playing.

*Another recommendation is "Sleeping Queens" by Gamewright.
