Descent Second Edition: Lair of The Wyrm Expansion Review

This Descent expansion seamlessly integrates into Descent Second Edition. It adds, among other things,

-Two new hero characters
-Two new hero classes
-One new Overlord card class
-Two new monster types
-One new Lieutenant
-A bunch of quests and items

Very little of the expansion tacks on advanced rules, so it's very easy to drop these extra bonuse into a new or ongoing campaign. Because the two classes/characters only cover two of the Archetypes (Warrior and Mage), I assume we'll probably see at least one more expansion with classes and characters for the Healer and Rogue.

All of the components fit nicely into the original Descent Second Edition box as well.

Yu-Gi-Oh Legendary Collection 10th Anniversary Special Pack with Egyptian-Style 3-Ring Binder Review

I recently got this Collection at Target, one for me and one for my friend's birthday. I have to say, it's pretty sweet. I mean, the 3 Egyptian god cards? Blue Eyes, Red Eyes, and the Dark Magician? I already have all 3 of those cards, but they're still pretty awesome. Also, the booster packs are interesting. I got 3 Fusions in the first two booster Packs: Gaia the Dragon Champion, Metal Dragon, and Bickuribox. The booster packs included are: Legend of Blue-Eyes White Dragon, Metal Raiders, Spell Ruler, Pharaohs Servant, Dark Crisis, and Invasion of Chaos. But all the cards are random from the list of cards in the booster packs.

Of course I have to mention the God Cards. If any buyer is unsure if the are fake, then let me guarantee you that these are not fakes. The are 100% genuine and say "This card cannot be used in a Duel." in the lower left corner. It sucks that you can't use them, but this is a collector's pack, so they're not supposed to be much for dueling. Also, if you want playable God Cards, then just order/buy a playable Obelisk on Amazon. Shonen Jump made an official once so that we could at least enjoy them. Hopefully, soon, Shonen Jump will release Playable versions of Slifer and Ra.

I had a blast with this game. Anyone familiar with classic Risk will find this an interesting change. I took it to my local games shop and started playing with some people and we had a crowd gathered around watching us play before long.it takes place in the future of the planet and now you have a Lunar map to conquer along with the Earth map. An added twist to the game is the inclusion of commanders which are more powerful units and allow other certain tactical advantages. Want to storm your opponents naval colonies? You have to have a Naval Commander. Also for each commander type you purchase (using energy chips you get at the start of your turn) you can purchace command cards which allow you to do some radical things in the game. One of my favoites is the Stealth M.O.D.s card. When an opponent invades your territory, you play the card and place 3 additional armies in your territory.You can also play classic Risk with it, so ina way it's two games in one.Also to keep the games from going too long, the game is played in 5 rounds. (5 game years) Whoever is ahead at the end is the winner.The box comes with a nice sturdy carboard insert that makes different storage areas to place the game pieces so they don't get all jumbled up. Descent Second Edition Dice Game Review

It's quite nice to have a few more sets of dice while running through Descent. The overlord doesn't like sharing with grubby handed heroes. I only wished these came with the green power dice introduced in the Labyrinth of Ruin expansion.

Munchkin Booty (Revised) Review

We love the Munchkin card games in general - but I have to say I think this one is a standout. The class cards and the vehicles are excellent and there are particularly amusing enemies to fight. You have horrible accents to fake, sharks to fight, and ships to sail. I highly recommend it. The expansion pack for this game (Fish & Ships) is definitely worth getting, as well.

Ravensburger Labyrinth Anniversary Edition Family Game Review

I wasn't sure what to expect from this, but my 7 year old LOVES mazes, so I had to give it a try.

Box is metal, much nicer than most of the pressed cardboard things that games almost invariably use.

Play is quite simple, but playING can be a challenge. You push one tile into the board from an edge, which slides the entire row down one piece, changing the maze at every turn. Your object is to reach certain items (decided by the randomness of the cards you have), so as you and your opponent move, your path is constantly changing - sometimes for good, sometimes for bad.

It was very enjoyable to play both for myself, as well as my 7 year old son. And with the randomness of the mazes, it's not like the kids can just memorize the way and go quicker next time.

Great concept, and great execution. Very sturdy board, the pieces are also very sturdy and hold up well to kids play.

Ravensburger Snail's Pace Race - Children's Game Review

This game indicates that it is for ages 3+. I'm not so sure about that "+" part. My younger daughter, who is three (and, to be honest, a rather odd bird), loves the game. Her older sister, who is a very typical worldly-wise five-year-old, didn't see the point.

The game is very simple. There are six wooden snails in six different bright colors, a game board with six different color-coded tracks for the snails to "race" on and two "dice" with six different colored dots rather than numbers or pips. The snails line up at the starting line (the instructions indicate that the leaves are the starting point, but my daughter insisted that the leaves should be the finish line - the reward that the snails are racing for, so we started at the snail end). All six snails line up regardless of how many people are playing. Players take turns rolling the dice and moving the appropriate snail forward each time its color comes up (a snail gets to move ahead two spaces if both dice come up with its color). The players make predictions about which snail will win and which will come in last. The winning player is the one who correctly guesses the winning and losing snail.

There are some pluses and minuses to this game, which is why I say it's a good game for the right child at the right age. It's perfect for my younger daughter because she's not very competitive and she's never been into traditional board games. This game allows her to play not to win or lose, but just to see what happens. If anything, she feels sorry for the "slow" snails and she will "cheat" to help them win. She really doesn't use it as a game, but more of an interactive toy to play with Mommy or perhaps a bridge to board games. It's also good for her because the snails fit nicely in her hands and there are no numbers or reading involved - just color matching. She's a very laid-back kid and this game is perfect for her.

But if your child is more traditional, this game probabaly won't go over very well, even at younger ages. My five-year-old never would have gone for this game, even when she was three. It's too nebulous, not clear cut. For instance, the instructions say that the players should make their predictions "as the game progresses". What exactly does that mean? At what point specifically should predictions be made and set in stone? My younger daughter is fine with the fluidity of changing predictions based on how the snails are progressing, but it drives my older daughter nuts - she thinks that's cheating. You can probably set your own rules that work for your child(ren), but it might be difficult to play with other kids.

As is almost universally true of Ravensburger products, this game is quite durable. There's very little to get broken. The snails are sturdy wood and the game board is also sturdy with only one fold.

I got this product free through the Amazon Vine program and I'm glad to have it, but I don't know that I would spend money on it. This could be a good game for your three or four-year-old if he or she is more reserved, sensitive and/or non-competitive. It's a good way for young children to work on colors and on making predictions and it's a nice introductory game to play with parents or other adults. But I don't think it will be wildly popular with most children and even for children to whom it appeals, I think the age range will be quite narrow.
