Product Description

Adventure on the Cursed Island is another epic game created by Ignacy Trzewiczek the author of Stronghold. This time Trzewiczek takes the players to a deserted island where they'll play the parts of shipwreck survivors confronted by an extraordinary adventure. They'll be faced with the challenges of building a shelter finding food fighting wild beasts and protecting themselves from weather changes. Building walls around their homes animal domestication constructing weapons and tools from what they find and much more awaits them on the island. The players decide in which direction the game will unfold and ? after several in-game weeks of hard work ? how their settlement will look. Will they manage to discover the secret of the island in the meantime? Will they find a pirate treasure or an abandoned village? Will they discover an underground city or a cursed temple at the bottom of a volcano? Answers to these questions lie in hundreds of event cards and hundreds of object and structure cards that can be used during the game... Robinson Crusoe: Adventure on the Cursed Island is not only a thrilling story perfectly combined with its game mechanisms; it's also designed to change the co-operative genre by doing away with the major nuisances of cooperative games: the leader issue and the dumb player issue. It's a cooperative game in which the problem of a single player deciding for the rest of the participants does not exist the game that reacts in an exciting way to all of the players' actions.

Robinson Crusoe Adventures on the Cursed Island Board Game Review

I've been having my eye on this game for nearly a year now. It's finally over here on our side of the pond, and I am now the proud owner of this game.
Many people would fear about their gadgets or car keys being stolen from their house... mine is that this bad boy will be taken instead. A bit of an irrational fear maybe. Who ever heard of burglars stealing board games? But that's a good indicator of how much I value this game I reckon.
If you don't like long games, don't get it. If you don't like complicated games, don't get it. If you don't work well with people as a team, don't get it.
If however, you do like co-op games, and you've got 2 hours to spare, and you've got a head for the slightly more complicated type of games... get this one. It's well worth the money, value-wise.
With 6 scenarios to choose from, and 2 more online to download, you certainly can't complain. Even if it only had the one scenario in the box, it would still be different every time you played due to the volumes of different cards you get.
The premise is of course that you're ship-wrecked souls on an island with not much from the wreckage. Depending on the scenario you will have to accomplish different feats, like building a massive wooden bonfire to signal passing ships, rescuing a fair damsel in distress, defeat the local man-eaters, exorcise the island of spirits and more. On top of that you will need to build a shelter, make a fire, put up a palisade to protect yourselves from wild beasts, go out and explore the island, gather resources, protect yourself from the elements, go hunting, build weapons and helpful inventions, and keep your teams morale high.
A cleverly thought out worker placement style game, with huge replayability. The vast amount of cards means that you will have a different adventure each time. Whilst a few events will initially be a set back, you then have an opportunity later to earn from those mistakes and turn some to your advantage. Been poisoned by eating dodgy berries? Maybe you can use your knowledge of the poison to your advantage later.
But do you send one guy off to build something and risk failure, or send two to guarantee success? But if you do send two then you don't have enough spare hands to gather much needed resources. Such or the decisions you will need to discuss as a team.
This game is well thought out. Whilst it may initally seem a bit complicated, al of the rules are based around cause and effect that would happen in real life. This keeps the game grounded in reality, and means that each effect on your survivors has a reason and actually builds a believable story.
I love the concept, the theme, the replayability, the way it looks, the way it plays and the whole sense of adventure. Any game that convincingly takes you to another world and drags you into a story that you are a part of is well worth top marks in my books.
