Product Description
Escape: The Curse of the Temple is a cooperative game in which players must escape from a temple which is cursed before the temple collapses and kills one or more explorers thereby causing everyone to lose. Escape is played in real-time with all players rolling dice and taking actions simultaneously. You must roll the right symbols to enter a room and if you're at an open doorway you can roll to reveal the next tile in the stack and add it to that doorway. Some rooms contain combinations of red and blue symbols and if you (possibly working with other players in the same room) roll enough red or blue symbols you discover magic gems moving them from a separate gem depot onto that tile. The real-time aspect is enforced by a soundtrack to be played during the game. At certain points a countdown starts and if players aren't back in the safe room when time is up they lose one of their dice. Escape: The Curse of the Temple includes two expansion modules that can be used individually or together. With the Treasures module some rooms contain treasure and when you reveal such a room you place a face-down treasure chest on the tile. Roll the symbols on that chest tile and you claim the treasure for use later: a key lets you teleport anywhere a path lets you connect two rooms that otherwise have no door between them and a medic kit heals all players instantly (putting black dice back into play). With the Curses module some tiles curse players by forcing them to place one hand on their head keep mute during play or otherwise do what you wouldn't want to do while escaping a temple!Escape Review
As many of you I also collect board games and this is one of the most simple yet fun games I've played in a whileWhy Simple?
I live in Costa Rica and fortunately have several friends interested in board games, but there is always at least 1 person on the group that presents issues following instructions in English, well this game works with symbols and sounds everybody can understand, you could actually say the game pretty much explains itself. It only takes me 4 minutes to brief a new explorer on how to play regardless if they have previous experience with other games or not. Even my 5 years old niece picked up the game pretty quickly and surprised me a little with a bunch of correct assumptions specially regarding the images on the curses and treasures
Why Fun?
This is the type of game I can play with anyone without worrying about killing them of boredom or actually literally killing them. There is no way to stab your friends on the back with this one, we all survive or die together but as a team. This concept is the perfect recipe for a fun night with your old or even new friends

As you can tell, I'm not referring to the game's mechanics just because I believe it could be better if you see it by yourself
If you are on the fence, this is the video that made me purchase the game, enjoy

Observations :
Consumers will definitively benefit if the game came in a smaller box since all the components could fit in a 1/3 of the original box, I recommend using a middle sized bag if you want to make this game portable
The game certainly has a conflict (escape or get trapped forever) but is missing a plot and a variety of objectives. You will find yourself doing the same over and over until you wonder why? There is an expansion for the game that covers this complain, it introduces the idea of stealing a treasure from the temple and force-carry it to the exit, but I don't have it
I feel no remorse when my character is trapped and dies at the end of the game. These are just generic wooden figures, they
don't have a face or a story. This, I'm pretty sure was done on purpose to keep the game simple but if you are like me and look for a deeper game, I have to tell you that this is one of the lightest games I have played this year
Even though the game is exciting by itself, it lacks a little bit of action sometimes and could become boring specially for kids. Therefore I had to come out with a little story for my niece. Now we are being hunted by ghosts that block our way and every time you reveal a cursed tile (a ghost) you can either choose to enter and fight it with torches or just take another path (if you fight and loss you are cursed). This is actually quite fun specially for her, since I end up fighting almost all the bad guys while she tries to get gems or roll Golden Masks to cure me later. She is into zombies, so I still have to find out a way to include zombies into gameplay

Finally, you can use the included CD or Sand Timer to keep track of the events BUT if you want the Mp3 version just follow the link below

Right click on the desired track and select "Save link as". They are all the same, with little variations on the music, Track #2 is my favorite
(I don't hyper link because I believe Amazon doesn't like direct links on the reviews, just copy and paste)
