Choose one of your favorite characters from Resident Evil such as: Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, or Albert Wesker among others. Players start with only the most basic of items and weapons. As the game progresses, players build their arsenal with additional Weapons, Ammunition, Action or Item cards to improve their chances of defeating "the Infected"!

Resident Evil Resident Evil Deck Building Game Review

First I'd like to address a couple of the other reviews posted thus far. As far as the quality of the packaging, it isn't the greatest, but I've certainly seen worse and it shouldn't really be the deciding factor when evaluating the quality of a card game; Munchkin is a fantastic card game and is literally just a box with cards and die in it without anything to keep them from just rattling around inside. As for Michael Roberts and his playgroup's issue with dying all the time...all I can say is that I've played a couple games of the story mode with my girlfriend and her brother and no one has been completely knocked out of the game yet from too many deaths. Exploring the mansion (fighting a monster) is optional on your turn and not a good idea in early turns when your deck hasn't developed as much. This may not have been the case. I don't know, perhaps they were just unlucky.

To address the game directly, I'd like to say that this is my first experience with a deck-building game and that after 5 or so turns, it becomes extremely addicting. It is a game that is easy to learn, but more challenging to understand on a strategic level. Building your deck and combating monsters without regard for probability is a recipe for disaster. Fundamentally the game is about adopting a strategy that works well with your character card (everyone starts with a character card that gains new abilities after killing monsters), trying to obtain cards that enable that strategy, and building a deck with consideration to probability and ratio. Since this is my first time playing a deck-building game, the closest thing I can equate the experience to is drafting Magic the Gathering.

I would also suggest sleeving up the cards to lengthen their lifespan and also to make the amount of shuffling the game requires much easier. The instruction booklet does have some typos which caused some confusion and the directions themselves often take some active participation on your part, but the core game as a whole is a lot of fun.
