I've been teaching my daughter to play chess for the last few years and her interest in the game is really growing. Even though we own wooden and stone chess sets, this is the first plastic "outdoor" set we've invested in, something to take to the park on the off chance that the ducks aren't biting.

Overall the quality of this set is pretty good: the queens provided (extra queens too!) are free of sharp crowns; the pieces' weights seem to stay in place; and I have yet to see any chipping or cracking due to excessive handling. Granted we're not slam-bam bang it down on the board speed chess players, so I don't know how these pieces would hold up to that type of rigorous play, but I can say these are perfect for our needs.

Overall, the price and quality of these pieces is fairly competitive. They look good and, more importantly, feel good in your hand... which is starting to make me think everything in this world should be triple-weighted.

Update - 10/30/11 - Having used the pieces for a while the only problem we've run across is the weak adhesive used to connect the felt bottoms to the plastic. I've had a half dozen or so come off during the time we've had them, only to reattach each one with superglue. Not a big deal, I suppose, but still you'd think they would have addressed that problem since this variety of plastic piece has been on the market for some time now.
